Frequently Asked Questions
1. What grades do you currently offer?
We are launching in September 2025 with a Middle School program for Grades 6–8, and will grow with our students each year. Our vision is to eventually offer a full Grades 6–9 program.
2. What is different about Wildwood compared to other schools?
Wildwood Independent School blends BC curriculum with outdoor leadership, project-based learning, and strong social-emotional development. We believe education should nurture the whole child—mind, heart, and body—and that learning comes alive through movement, creativity, and real-world exploration.
3. Are you a certified school?
Yes. We are in the process of becoming a BC Ministry of Education–certified Group 2 Independent School, which means we follow the provincial curriculum, employ certified teachers, and are inspected and supported by the Ministry.
4. Where is the school located?
We are based at the beautiful Camp Douglas campus in Roberts Creek, BC, nestled among forest, fields, and trails. The site offers both indoor classrooms and access to expansive natural learning spaces.
5. Do students spend a lot of time outdoors?
Yes! We are a dedicated Outdoor Leadership Program, with regular outtrips, environmental stewardship projects, and skill-building experiences such as navigation, shelter building, cooking outdoors, and snow travel. Students learn to lead, take risks, and thrive in nature while also meeting high academic goals.
6. What are your class sizes?
We aim for small, intentional cohorts of approximately 16 students per grade group. This allows us to foster strong relationships, adapt to individual learning needs, and create a close-knit community.
7. What qualifications do your teachers have?
All teachers at Wildwood hold valid BC Teaching Certificates and bring a rich mix of classroom and outdoor education experience. We are committed to hiring educators who embody both professional excellence and deep care for their students.
There are two teachers with our classes to ensure that our students are able to spread out by ability and have support when needed.
8. Is there a technology component?
Yes. We provide each student with access to a laptop for the school year, which they may use at home and at school for research, writing, presentations, and creative projects. Tech use is balanced and intentional.
9. What are the tuition and fees?
Tuition and fee details are shared during the admissions process. In addition to base tuition of $10,700 annually paid monthly, we have two annual fees:
$800 Outdoor Program Fee: covers transportation, equipment, and guides for trips
$300 Technology Fee: provides a personal-use laptop for the school year
There are no other mandatory costs, and if special activities arise, students may help fundraise as part of their leadership learning.
10. What’s Included in the $800 Outdoor Fee
The outdoor fee covers all the logistics and supports needed for our out trips and outdoor education programming, including:
Transportation for regular out-of-school trips (rented school busses etc)
Equipment and materials for outdoor learning and exploration such as tents and stoves
Additional adult guides and instructors to support safety and enrich learning experiences on trips
We’ve done our best to keep this fee as inclusive and comprehensive as possible.
11. Will there be additional costs for field trips and activities during school?
No. We’ve designed our fees to be inclusive of all standard field trips and activities to make planning easier for families. If any special opportunities arise that go beyond the regular programming, students will be involved in fundraising efforts to help cover those costs.
12. How do I apply?
We’re currently accepting applications for the 2025/26 school year. Families can begin by reaching out to our team for more information, then submitting the application form and waiver. A trial day may be offered as part of the admissions process.
